It has paid its fine and can now go back to being a sleepy toll taker and data provider. Companies like this (think Moody's) annoy everyone but they are recession proof and have built up a very big moat over the years because they are so embedded in our financial system they are very hard to dislodge.

If a company like Moody's, which enjoys a somewhat similar monopolistic position in the credit industry, can survive being one of the most responsible parties for the massive financial catastrophe that we experienced not long ago then eventually Equifax will recover from the data breach.

There are two things that support EFX from here. First, rising wages provide tailwinds to consumer demand for homes, credit cards, and other financial products that require credit insight. Second, slight upticks in delinquency rates increases the need for diligent lending. While a tipping point (wage and economic slowing) could occur if the FED pumps the brakes too hard, it seems like EFX is currently in the sweet spot of demand growth.
