I have always been a Value Investor at heart. My ultimate goal in investing is to buy a stake in a company that is currently worth less than it should be. Given my background working on The Motley Fool boards for its Global Gains and Special Ops services I tend to look for value in strange places from time to time. This morning I came across an interesting investment idea over on Seeking Alpha that checks all of these boxes off...a Global stock, that is involved in a special situation that has created the opportunity to purchase shares of a company at what the author believes is a discount to its actual value.
The company that I'm talking about is the German utility EON. The evolving German energy market has created a tougher environment for non-renewable energy producers in the country. In response to this, the German utility giant EON recently spunoff its "dirty" utility operations into a new company called Innogy in the country's largest IO in more than a decade.
Free from the regulatory issues that are starting to bog down Innogy, the remaining "clean" assets of EON appear to be undervalued. Below is a link to an interesting article on the subject.
