GEO Group, Inc. specializes in the ownership, lease, and management of correctional, detention, and re-entry facilities. It operates through the following segments: U.S. Secure Services, GEO Care, International Services, and Facility Construction and Design. The U.S. Secure Services segment encompasses the United States-based public-private partnership corrections and detention business. The GEO Care segment consists of the community-based services business, the youth services business, and the electronic monitoring and supervision service. The International Services segment includes detention operations in South Africa, Australia, and the United Kingdom. As much as I want to be wrong about this, I think the political landscape is primed for some hardcore volatility in 24 months or so. I expect another massive political circus from the conservative camp, which will result in a temporary boom in aggressive, politically imbalanced law enforcement, and lots of promised cashflow into the penal system.

If the market starts to slump (as everyone expects it will), and the economy doesn't absolutely light on fire (anyone's guess is as good as another), the penal system will be one of the first major financial beneficiaries.
