This stock will not outperform the S&P 500.
Here's the reasons why:
1) This is content is lacking in the US. I know there is expansion for overseas content, but the bottom line is they are losing subscribers because people don't want to pay for something they don't use. Their business model is big name actors to star in terrible movies. They are just cranking out bad movies all the time. Stranger Things is the bell cow and it just finished it's final season
2) This cold be a 1.a., but their new model of paying less for Ad supported which is essentially paying more for what you have now is a bad move when you have lack of content. This is basically at an attempt to turn more of a profit. This will push more people out then keep them in.
3) The streaming space is really crowded with Amazon, Disney, HBO, Hulu, Paramount, Peacock, all offering services for comparable or less prices. The competition is super fierce, and Netflix share is getting picked off every quarter. The Disney ESPN Hulu bundle is the same price as Netflix premium (allows for more devices) and Disney bundle has more content.
4) Lockdowns are over and people are out of their houses. COVID is in the rear-view mirror. The US won't tolerate anymore aggressive lockdowns because the economy just can't withstand it.
Netflix is still No 1 on the streaming market, but it's share is going to keep shrinking and it's going to keep losing members. It's difficult for me to buy in a $226 when there's other more attractive options out there.
Recs
Go woke, go broke. Subscriber implosion will continue as the economy enters into recession and consumers question the quality of content offered and compare value to other spending options.
